About Pastor Don
Don Dye was reared in a home of traditional
conservative Christianity where Don saw the life of
a pastor from the other side of the pew and in the
home. His experiences inspired him to seek creative
means to minister God’s love.
Don enrolled in Abilene Christian University where
he met Sue in his second year of college. Don ran
track for ACU and had goals of running in the
Olympics until a knee injury sidelined him. Marriage
soon provided Don and Sue a lifetime of running the
race set before them.
Don’s early desire of ministering in different ways
motivated him to assume the responsibility of jail
chaplain for the Harris County Jails. God provided
much success by bringing hundreds into the kingdom
through his ministry. Don initiated and supervised
the first recreational program for the jails. At
the peak of Don’s ministry in the jails, he was shot
in a hunting accident and was hospitalized for three
months. After experiencing several of God’s
interventions in saving his life, he viewed ministry
in a different way. After having a spiritual
awakening with the person and work of the Holy
Spirit his life and his ministry changed.
While Don was speaking in Boston he met a Houston
Oiler quarterback who was hospitalized in Boston
with a broken hip. Upon the quarterbacks return to
Houston, Don assisted in His recuperation by working
out with him. At this time the players requested
Don to become their first full-time chaplain. Don
worked out daily with the team, traveled and
ministered to the team full-time.
The Houston Astros heard of the work being done with
the Oilers and while at training camp elected Don to
be their chaplain. Don provided chaplain service to
both teams for several years. While Don was
experiencing fellowship with the teams, Sue started
visiting spirit-filled churches. Don and Sue visited
an Assembly of God church and after two weeks of
attendance the pastor asked Don to come on staff as
an associate of evangelism and continue his work
with the pro teams. Don’s ministry consisted of
ministering outside the walls of the church. The
pastor then brought Don inside for the ministry of
administration.
After years of established church ministry, Don
started church planting. Don had the blessings of
God while experiencing unique success in planting
churches in suburbs and in “bedroom communities”.
In each church He used state of the art multi-media
and arts ministry to enhance the services. |
